NSW: New taskforce to target security company attacks

A new police taskforce has been formed to counter the growing occurrence of attacks
on security guards.

The Sydney Morning Herald says a 16-member taskforce will target raids on armoured
vans and cash escorts, following a wave of such robberies in recent months.

The paper says Police Minister JOHN WATKINS announced the formation of Strike Force
Brown within hours of yesterday's robbery of three security guards in Hornsby in Sydney's
north-west.

Strike Force Brown is an existing unit which has worked on several bank-related crimes.

It's been given the main responsibility for investigating security company attacks
on firms like Armaguard and Chubb, and will be directly answerable to Robbery and Serious
Crime Squad chief PETER COTTER.
