Australian Democrats Senator ANDREW BARTLETT says that while a potential split in theparty is a long way off, it's still a possibility.
Senator NATASHA STOTT DESPOJA resigned as Democrats leader last week after oppositionfrom a so-called gang of four senators.
There's been speculation the four -- Senators JOHN CHERRY, ANDREW MURRAY, LYN ALLISONand ADEN RIDGEWAY -- will break away and form a new party.
Senator BARTLETT has told reporters that if the party remains divided after the ballotfor a new leader, there may not even be a party to lead.
He says he's still considering whether he'll throw his hat into the leadership ring.
